Impact assessment of selected vastu remedied houses

Abstract


Vastushastra’ an ancient Indian science of architecture or building science is one of an important aspects believedand followed by the households for construction of any structure. Research is carried out to know about the concept ofvastu and its importance in house building. The main objective of the study is to find out the basic principles of vastufollowed in residential buildings from the professionals, analysing the plans of the houses selected for the study and findingthe impacts from the vastu modified houses. The methodology adopted for the study consisted of professional survey andhousehold survey. The information was collected from fifteen professionals and experts in the field of vastu and fiftyindependent houses of high and upper middle income groups were selected for the study. Forty per cent of the professionalsstated that the awareness among the households were well received in Coimbatore city, 33 per cent of them opined that theawareness of vastu was good among them and 27 per cent of them expressed that majority of the households were awareabout vastu. All the professionals stated that the remedial measures given for a vastu defect buildings such as residential,commercial, religious etc., were really useful and positive. Out of 50 households selected for the study, only 27 householdsdid modification on shape of the plot and among them a majority of 70 and 19 per cent of the houses were having polygonshaped plots which were modified in to rectangle and square respectively, while 11 per cent were having square shapedplots which were modified in to rectangle as per principles of vastu. All the selected households felt that modificationsadopted as per the principles of vastu gives a better and positive effect.
