Constraints faced by the women farmers while adopting the sustainable agricutural practices in Northern Karnataka

Abstract


The experiment was executed during 2006-09 to assess the constraints faced by 270 women farmers of Dharwad,Belgaum and Haveri districts of Northern Karnataka while adopting sustainable agriculture practices. More than 44 per centof the women respondent having confidence in sustainable agriculture practices and self interested in farming. Least per cent(12%) of the respondents agreed that no other economic alternatives (other income sources) and they were only the breadearners of the family. Hard working is the important indicator for successful sustainable agriculture practices as suggestedby 67.78 per cent women farmers. The women farmers of Belgaum district faced lack of education as technical constraintby highest number of women farmers (88.90%). In Dharwad district, natural calamities and lack of technology as technicalconstraints faced by 50.00 and 30.00 percent of the women farmers respectively. In financial constraint, lack of loan wasmajor constraint faced by 85.70 and 66.70 percent of the women farmers in Belgaum and Haveri districts of NorthernKarnataka respectively.
