Abstract

The present study was conducted with an objective to examine the relationship between age, multiple intelligenceand self-efficacy of adolescents. The study was conducted on a randomly drawn sample of 60 adolescents (30 boys and 30girls) who were in the age group of 10 to 16 years studying in class 5 to 10. The samples were drawn from Sharada Englishmedium school, Dharwad, Karnataka. The Multiple intelligences Inventory by Walker McKenzie (1999) was used toassess the multiple intelligences of adolescents. The multiple intelligences inventory includes 9 areas such as naturalisticintelligence, musical intelligence, logical intelligence, existential intelligence, interpersonal intelligence, kinesthetic intelligence, verbal intelligence, intrapersonal intelligence and visual intelligence. Self-Efficacy Scale by Sud et.al. (1998) which has 10statements was used to measure the self efficacy of the adolescents. The result revealed that there exist a significantdifference between the age group on all the nine intelligences and self-efficacy where the mean score of early adolescent weresignificantly higher than that of the mean score of pre-adolescents. The finding also showed that age was significantly andpositively related to all the nine intelligences such as naturalistic intelligence, musical intelligence, logical intelligence, existential intelligence, interpersonal intelligence, kinesthetic intelligence, verbal intelligence, intrapersonal intelligence andvisual intelligence. Self-efficacy was found to have a positive and significant relationship with only five intelligences-logicalintelligence, existential intelligence, interpersonal intelligence, verbal intelligence and intrapersonal intelligence and has nosignificant relation with the rest of the intelligences. There was also a positive and significant relationship between age andself efficacy of adolescents.
