Knowledge of school going adolescent girls regarding menstrual hygiene

Abstract


The study was conducted to know the knowledge on menstrual hygiene of 60 residential and 60 non-residentialschool age girls from rural and urban areas of Dharwad taluk during 2014-0215. The tools used were and self- structuredquestionnaire to assess the knowledge and practices regarding menstrual hygiene and Socio-Economic Status Scale .Theresults indicated that there was significant relationship found between SES and knowledge level in rural and urban residentialschool age girls. Among residential school girls, 45 per cent girls have medium knowledge and 55 per cent girls indicated highknowledge on menstrual hygiene. Whereas from the non-residential school girls 36.67 per cent showed medium knowledgeand remaining 63.33 per cent girls had high knowledge on menstrual hygiene. There were significant association between ageand knowledge on menstrual hygiene of school age girls in residential and non-residential school of both rural and urbanareas. The results also pointed out that knowledge on menstrual hygiene of girls increased with in age. Whereas motherseducation and mothers occupation was not significantly related with the knowledge on menstrual hygiene.
