Acceptance of value addition to traditional khana fabric

Abstract


The present study made among the college going girls in Hubli and Dharwad city reveals that 80 per centrespondents were aware of guledagudda khana material and the origin of the fabric. On the other hand 90 per centrespondents opined that the traditional hand woven khana material provides contemporary look for the individuals.Majority expressed that khana material is most suitable for lahanga, choli, wall hanging, hand bags, purses, frocks, cushioncovers, torans, mobile pouch and salwar kameez. Among the respondents 70, 40 and 38 per cent preferred pure cotton, polycotton and pure silk for khana products, respectively. While, 50, 30, 28, 20 ,24, 26, 32 per cent respondents preferredenrichment like embroidery, mirror work, bead work, appliqué, lace work, painting and modern designs in the order ofpreference as value addition. Whereas, 94 per cent of the respondents happily expressed that khana fabric will be a trendsetter in the changing fashion world and 84 per cent expressed that khana material has to be revived for uplifting the ruralweaving community.
