Abstract

A field experiment was conducted during kharif and rabi season of 2002-03 at Dharwad and Bagalkot locations, to study the  effect of location, season and staggered sowing on synchronisation of flowering, seed set percentage of RSFH-1 sunflower hybrid. Dharwad location took more number of days to 50 per cent flowering of female (62.67) and male (63.19) compared to Bagalkot (60.77 and 61.38, respectively). Similarly days to 50 per cent flowering of female (59.52) and male (60.81) parent were less in kharif compared to rabi season (63.92 and 64.25, respectively). The staggered sowing of male parent seven days early led the synchronisation of flowering between the parents and recorded significantly higher seed set (71.46%) over  other staggered sowings.
