Abstract

A field experiment was carried out, to study the effect of location, season and staggered sowing on seed quality attributes of sunflower cv. RSFH-1 during kharif and rabi season of 2003-04 at Dharwad and Bagalkot location. Significantly higher seed germination (88.30%), vigour index (2883), germination rate index (22.03) and oil content (35.36%) were recorded at Bagalkot location than Dharwad (83.62%, 2453, 19.54 and 31.33%, respectively). Similarly, all these quality parameters were significantly better during rabi than kharif season. The staggered sowing of male parent seven days early recorded the moderate values for seed germination (84.28%), seedling vigour index (2426), germination rate index (20.23) and field emergence (76.86) which were in acceptable limits. Hence, Bagalkot and rabi season is better to produce good quality seed with sowing of male seven days earlier than female.
