M. N. BHAVYA, S. M. HIREMATH

Abstract

A field experiment was conducted to study the performance of varietiesand effect of sulphur nutrition on growth and yield of garden pea(Pisum sativum L.) under rainfed situation. The experiment consistsof four varieties and three levels of sulphur nutrition laid out in splitplot design with three replication. The GS-10 variety (V3) recordedsignificantly higher plant height (52.61 cm) and canopy spread(45.13 cm) and yield parameters like pod length (8.88 cm), pod weight(3.79 g), number of pods per plant (15.38), number of seeds per pod(8.09) and yield per hectare (12.24 t) followed by PSM-3 variety(V2). Regards to sulphur nutrition, the application of 20 kg/ha sulphur(S2) recorded significantly higher plant height (47.88 cm) and yieldparameters like pod length (8.51), pod weight (343 g), number ofpods per plant (15.05), number of seeds per pod (7.37) and yield perhectare (10.87 t) followed by application of sulphur at 10 kg/ha (S1).Among the interaction effects GS-10 variety along with applicationof sulphur 10 kg/ha recorded significantly higher yield.
