Prosopis ceneraria is a tree of remarkable importance. Growth regulators stimulate and promote seed germination in a wide variety of tree crops. The promoting effect of growth regulators and pre-sowing chemicals on germination may be attributed to their indirect effect through change in membrane permeability. Keeping these in view, an investigation was carried out to elucidate the effect of growth regulators and pre-sowing chemicals on germination and vigour of Prosopis cineraria seeds, obtained from Karnataka seed sources. The results revealed that pre-treatment with IAA 250 ppm, KNO3 2 per cent for 12 hours are optimum for obtaining enhanced seed germination and vigour of the seedlings.
