H. A. KIRAN KUMARA, S. T. HUNDEKAR

Abstract

Soil samples from Hittnalli micro-watershed of Vijayapur district in northern dry zone of Karnataka were drawnat 320 x 320 m grid intervals and assessed for their fertility parameters. Analytical data was interpreted and statisticalparameters like range, mean and standard deviations were calculated for each parameter. Soils were moderately alkaline tostrongly alkaline and non saline. Organic carbon content was low to medium. Available nitrogen was low, phosphorus waslow to medium while available potassium, exchangeable calcium and magnesium were high and available sulphur was low tomedium. DTPA extractable micronutrients viz., zinc and iron were deficient in 50 per cent of the samples whereas, copperand manganese were sufficient in the soils. Results revealed that, available N, P, S, Zn and Fe are important soil fertilityconstraints.
