Abstract

A study was conducted to assess the adsorption behaviour of zinc in soils under paddy land use cover of Bhadracommand, Karnataka. Five soils with varying pH, EC, OC, CEC, CaCO3 and texture were collected and analyzed foradsorption studies. The results indicated that with increase in Zn concentration in equilibrium solution (10-160 ìg mL-1),there was a increase in the adsorption of Zn by soils. Zinc adsorption by soils followed only the Freundlich adsorptionisotherm. An increase in Zn adsorption with increase in level of Zn concentration in equilibrium solution was attributed tohigh level of organic carbon, clay content and cation exchange capacity of soils. Further, the magnitude of Zn adsorptionwas more in sandy clay loam soils and minimum was noticed in the loamy sand soil and this suggested that Zn adsorptionincreases with increase in clay and organic matter contents in soils.
