Abstract

An experiment was conducted in the root-knot nematode sick plot, to know the efficacy of antagonistic organismsviz., Trichoderma harzianum and Pseudomonas fluorescens alone and in rational combinations with vermicompost andchemicals viz., Dazomet, Metam sodium, and Carbofuran against root-knot nematode (RKN), Meloidogyne incognita inFlue Cured Virginia (FCV) tobacco nursery. The results indicated that, the application of T. harzianum in combination withvermicompost recorded least root-knot index (RKI) of 1.90 as compared to check (4.20). The subsequent increase in rootknotfree and total transplantable seedlings was to the tune of 44.81per cent which was on par with the standard chemicalcheck Carbofuran. Chemicals viz., Dazomet, Metam sodium, and Carbofuran were also compared for their efficacy againstRKN. Carbofuran was found to be effective in reducing RKI, but the application of Carbofuran along with vermicompostwas much more effective in bringing down RKN population and increasing healthy transplantable seedlings of tobacco.
