Abstract

An experiment was conducted to evaluate the morphological and quantitative characters of tamarind genotypesat the Forest Research Station, Govinakovi village, Davangere district during 2017-18. The experiment was laid out inrandomized complete block design with three replications by involving 16 genotypes. Morphological characters showedvariation in terms of branching habit, leaf colour, bearing habit, and tree stature. The analysis of variance revealed significantdifferences in the pod characters viz., pod length (K-9- 18.07 cm), pod width (D-2- 3.08 cm), pod circumference (S-8- 8.51cm), pod thickness (K-10- 2.17 cm), pulp weight (K-9- 19.50 g), pod weight (K-9- 39.90 g), seed weight (K-9- 9.38 g), shellweight (K-9- 8.57 g) and fibre weight (K-9- 2.45 g). Among the 16 genotypes, the genotype K-9 was found superior withrespect to pod length, pod width, pod circumference, pod weight, pulp weight, shell weight, seed and fibre weight. Hence, genotype K-9 is most promising and having immense potential which can be used for further evaluation.
