Effect of calcium enriched FYM through eggshell powder on soil properties and yield of brinjal (Solanum melongena L.)

Abstract


Laboratory incubation and field experiment was conducted at ZAHRS,Navile, Shivamogga during the year 2017 to know the effect of calciumenriched FYM through eggshell on soil properties and yield of Brinjal.The FYM was incubated for enrichment with eggshell powder (ESP)@ 10 kg/t and Lime @ 5 kg/t with and without microbial consortia for45 days. The Ca enriched FYM was applied to field @ 25 t/ha andwith brinjal as test crop. The FYM incubated with eggshell powder@ 10 kg/t + Microbial consortia (MC) for 45 days recorded higherNitrogen (0.85%), Phosphorous (0.36%), Potassium (0.56%), andCalcium (0.69%) content compared to FYM alone. The Calciumcontent of soil was analysed at different growth stages after fieldapplication of Ca enriched FYM to brinjal. The available calciumcontent in soil increased at different growth stages and recordedhighest Ca content (5.23 meq/100 g ) after harvest of Brinjal due toapplication of Ca enriched FYM through ESP @ 10 kg/t + MCincubated for 45 days followed by the treatment Ca enriched FYMthrough ESP @ 10 kg/t incubated for 15 days.
