Knowledge about ATMA among beneficiaries and staff in northern Karnataka

Abstract


The research study was conducted in Belagavi and Dharwad districts of Karnataka state during 2016-17 to assessthe knowledge about Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA) among beneficiaries and staff [AssistantTechnology Manager (ATM) and Block Technology Manager (BTM)] of northern Karnataka. “Ex-post-facto” researchdesign was adopted in the present research study. Totally 90 beneficiaries and 30 staff were selected randomly as samplebased on availability of beneficiaries and staff. The data was collected from the selected beneficiaries through self structuredinterview schedule, whereas the data was collected from ATMA staff through self structured questionnaire. The findings ofthe study revealed that more than half of the beneficiaries (54.44 %) had medium level of knowledge where as 45.56 per centof the beneficiaries had high level of knowledge and none of them belonged to low knowledge level. Knowledge ofbeneficiaries was positively and significantly influenced by independent variables like education, mass media participation,number of trainings undergone, extension contact and innovativeness of the beneficiaries, whereas, age was negativelysignificant. In case of ATMA staff, results showed that majority of respondent staff (93.33 %) had high level of knowledgefollowed by medium level (6.66 %) and none of them had low level of knowledge. Knowledge of staff was positively andsignificantly influenced by independent variables like age, experience and number of trainings undergone.
