Factors influencing marital satisfaction of primary school teachers in rural and urban areas in Roorkee taluk, Uttarakhand state

Abstract


The present study was aimed to assess the marital satisfaction of primary school teachers in Roorkee taluk ofUttarakhand state on a sample of 120 teachers. The background information and socio-economic status were assessed byself-structured general information schedule and socio-economic scale developed by Aggarwal et al. (2005). The maritalsatisfaction was assessed by the Marital Satisfaction Questionnaire developed by Haynes et al. (1992). The inferences weredrawn after descriptive analysis and computed mean, standard deviation and Pearson correlation. Results revealed thatmajority of the teachers exhibited high level of marital satisfaction. The correlation analysis revealed that factors like socioeconomicstatus, age difference between spouses and length of marriage showed significant relationship with maritalsatisfaction of teachers while age and age at marriage exhibited non-significant relationship with marital satisfaction. It isalso revealed that male teachers, teachers with high socio-economic status and teachers with higher length of marriageexhibited higher marital satisfaction
