Extent of Adoption of Selected Sustainable Cultivation Practices by Sugarcane Growers

Abstract


The research study was conducted in Belgaum and Bagalkot Districts of Karnataka during 2004-2005, with the sample size of 180 respondents.  The expost-facto research design was used for the study. The findings revealed that, around 64 per cent of respondents belonged to medium adopter category. Higher adoption was observed in land preparation and planting related SCP, time of application of FYM, inorganic manures (N.P.K.). Whereas meager percent of respondents had adopted bio fertilizer, vermicompost and micronutrients and green manure crops. Education, farming experience, risk orientation, attitude towards SCP, management orientation, achievement motivation, innovative proneness and extension contact of respondents had positive and significant relationship with their adoption of selected SCP. Multiple regression analysis indicated that, the seventeen independent variables put together had contributed to 43.18 per cent (R2=0.4318) variation in extent of adoption of selected SCP.
