A comparative analysis of study habits among academically backward and academically superior children

Abstract


The present study was carried out to understand the study habits of academically backward and superiorchildren during 2017-2018. The sample comprised 288 academically backward (144) and superior children (144) in the agegroup of 10-14 years from urban and rural schools in Dharwad taluk. Background information was collected by using selfstructured questionnaire, study habit was assessed through study habits inventory by Palsane and Sharma (1983). Theresults revealed that majority of academically superior children were average in study habits whereas majority of academicallybackward children had very unsatisfactory study habits. The factors such as age, ordinal position, gender, type of familyand socio-economic status influenced the study habits of academically superior children, while age, gender and socioeconomicstatus factors influenced study habits of academically backward children.
