Knowledge of underutilized leafy vegetables among rural and urban women in Shivamogga and Dharwad districts

Abstract


 The present study was aimed to study the knowledge level of Underutilized leafy vegetables (UL Vs) among ruraland urban women in Shivamogga and Dharwad districts of Karnataka with a sample size of 240.  An exploratory researchdesign was employed for the study and the data was elicited through personal interview method. The inferences were drawnafter descriptive analysis, mean, standard deviation and Pearson correlation. Results revealed that in Shivamogga district,equal percentage (46.67 %) of rural and urban women belonged to high knowledge level. Whereas, in Dharwad district, 40.00per cent of rural women had medium knowledge and 45.00 per cent of urban women had high knowledge. In Shivamogga,nearly equal percentage of rural (37.00 %) and urban (38.00 %) had less favourable opinion towards UL Vs. Whereas, inDharwad district, about 53.00 per cent of rural and 40.00 per cent of urban women were with low favourable opinion. Thecorrelation analysis revealed that factors like family size and innovativeness showed highly significant relationship withknowledge level of rural and urban women. It is also revealed that rural and urban women differed significantly in theknowledge of UL Vs.Key words:Awareness and knowledge, Opinion, Underutilized leafy vegetables
