Abstract

A field experiment was conducted during kharif, 2018 at the Agricultural Research Station, Gangavathi, Karnatakato study bio efficacy of sequential application of herbicides in direct seeded rice (Oryza sativa L.). The experimentconsisted of 11 treatments comprised of hand weeding at 20 and 40 DAS, weed free check and weedy check, sequentialapplication of pre followed by post emergence herbicides, executed in randomized block design and replicated thrice. Thestudy revealed that hand weeding at 20 and 40 DAS recorded significantly lower weed density (3.78 m-2), weed dry weight(0.75 g m-2) and high weed control efficiency (88.81 %) at 40 DAS and resulted in higher grain yield, straw yield, gross andnet returns. Among herbicidal treatments, application of pendimethalin 38.7 CS @ 700 g a.i. ha-1 (PE) followed by (fb)(chlorimuron ethyl+ metsulfuron methyl) 20 WP @ 4 g a.i. ha-1 (POE) at 2-4 leaves stage of weeds proved most effectivein controlling weeds and recorded higher yield, net returns and BC ratio. In contrast weedy check treatment recordedsignificantly lower grain yield, gross returns, net returns and BC ratio.
