Performance of Self Help Groups of Karnataka in Farm Activities

Abstract


Self Help Groups (SHGs) are gaining momentum for the development of rural people in the recent years. The study was undertaken to find out the extent of performance of farming related SHGs at individual, group and community levels in the Sujala Water Shed area of Karnataka. 200 respondents representing 50 SHGs formed the sample size and the data were collected during April - June 2005. The study revealed that the majority of SHG members have attained medium level of performance at all the three levels. The scope for performance of SHGs can be enhanced through more number of need based training programmes, market and credit linkages.
